Sangfor & Veeam Backup Integration

Sangfor and Veeam backup integration brings enterprise-grade data protection to organisations running workloads on Sangfor HCI and Sangfor aSV. With the Veeam Plug-in for Sangfor aSV 1.0 (Veeam Backup & Replication 13.1 and above), customers can protect Sangfor virtual machines using the same backup, recovery, and repository workflows already familiar to Veeam users — including Changed Block Tracking for faster backup windows and a choice of backup methods to suit different recovery objectives. The integration is particularly relevant for organisations modernising their virtualisation platform, evaluating alternatives to VMware, or standardising backup operations across mixed environments — and, given Sangfor's sovereign-cloud architecture, for regulated sectors that need data and backups to stay within national borders.

The outcome:

Veeam Backup & Replication 13.1+ natively protects Sangfor aSV virtual machines through the dedicated Veeam Plug-in for Sangfor aSV 1.0. Changed Block Tracking shortens backup windows, and four backup methods (forward incremental, forever-forward incremental, active full, synthetic full) let teams tune backups to their recovery objectives — the same operational model Veeam customers already use elsewhere.

Beyond full VM recovery, the integration supports recovery of files and folders from Sangfor aSV VM guest operating systems, plus application item recovery for workloads such as Microsoft Active Directory, Exchange, SharePoint, SQL Server, Oracle Database, PostgreSQL, and Microsoft DNS.

Customers already using Veeam can continue using Veeam backup repositories, backup copies, VeeamZIP backups, and existing operational practices while extending protection to Sangfor aSV workloads — reducing the learning curve for infrastructure and backup teams.

Sangfor was the first HCI vendor to achieve Veeam Cloud & Service Provider (VCSP) status, in 2024. Separately, Sangfor's own aStor storage layer adds WORM immutability and AI-based anti-ransomware detection — capabilities that complement, but sit outside, the Veeam backup workflow itself. Together they support a "sovereign cloud" posture: workloads and backups can stay on Malaysian/regional soil while still meeting enterprise recovery expectations.

Use cases:

  1. Protecting Business-Critical VMs on Sangfor HCI

    • Where it applies:  Enterprises running applications, databases, domain services, or file/internal systems on Sangfor HCI.

    • Challenge solved:  The IT team needs reliable backup and recovery for virtual machines hosted on Sangfor aSV.

    • Outcome:  Workloads back up into Veeam repositories and restore on demand, supporting business continuity and operational confidence.

2. Migration from VMware or Hyper-V to Sangfor HCI

  • Where it applies: Organisations evaluating Sangfor HCI as part of an infrastructure refresh, VMware-alternative planning, or cost optimisation.

  • Challenge solved: Customers worry that changing platforms will disrupt their backup and recovery approach.

  • Outcome: Veeam-supported recovery paths let organisations move or restore workloads into Sangfor aSV environments while retaining familiar Veeam processes.

3. Data Sovereignty & Regulated-Industry Backup

  • Where it applies: Financial services, government, and other regulated Malaysian/regional organisations that need data and backups to stay within national borders.

  • Challenge solved: Balancing data-residency and compliance requirements with modern, automated backup and cloud-scale recovery.

  • Outcome: Sangfor's private/hybrid sovereign-cloud architecture keeps data on-premises or in-region while Veeam's mature backup tooling still delivers enterprise-grade recovery objectives.
