User access through Aruba ClearPass

Solution Overview

HPE Aruba Networking ClearPass Policy Manager is a network access control (NAC) solution that helps organizations decide who and what can connect to the network. It applies security policies based on user identity, device type, role, and compliance posture across wired, wireless, and VPN access.

In the EA Experience Center, ClearPass can be demonstrated as part of a secure enterprise network environment, showing how customers can manage employees, guests, BYOD devices, contractors, and IoT devices with consistent access control. This is especially useful for organizations moving toward zero trust security and more flexible hybrid workplace models.

Unique features

  1. Role- and device-based access control

ClearPass can apply different access rules based on who the user is and what device is connecting. For example, an employee laptop, contractor device, visitor smartphone, and IoT camera can each receive different network access automatically.

  1. Strong visibility into connected devices

ClearPass helps identify and profile devices on the network, giving IT teams better visibility into corporate devices, personal devices, and IoT endpoints. This helps reduce the risk of unknown devices silently connecting to critical network segments.

  2. Support for BYOD, guest, and IoT access

Organizations can provide controlled access for bring-your-own-device users, visitors, and smart devices without treating every connection the same. This improves user convenience while keeping sensitive systems protected.

  3. Consistent policy enforcement across network types

ClearPass supports access control across wired, wireless, and VPN environments, including multivendor infrastructure. This helps customers avoid separate access policies for different parts of the network.

  4. Integration with security and IT systems

ClearPass can work with firewalls, endpoint management, and other security tools to support automated enforcement and response. This allows a device’s access level to change when risk, compliance, or identity status changes.

Use cases

  • Use case 1: Secure employee and BYOD access

In a modern office, employees often move between meeting rooms, work areas, and wireless zones while using both company-owned and personal devices. ClearPass helps authenticate users and assign the correct access based on identity and device status. Customers benefit from safer mobility, fewer manual network changes, and better control over who can reach internal applications.

  • Use case: Guest and contractor network access

Visitors, contractors, and partners may need temporary internet or limited internal access during meetings, projects, or events. ClearPass allows organizations to separate guest access from business-critical systems and apply time-limited or role-specific policies. This solves the common challenge of giving external parties convenient connectivity without opening unnecessary security exposure.

  • Use case 3: IoT and operational device segmentation

Many enterprises now connect cameras, sensors, printers, access control systems, and other IoT devices to the same network environment. ClearPass can identify these device types and place them into the right network segment with limited permissions. This reduces the impact of compromised or misconfigured devices and supports a stronger zero trust approach.
